Personally being a Vancouverite, yes. I’ve always been a big follower of the Olympic Games, and whether or not you support the inner-workings of the IOC you have to admit the Olympics is a celebration of sport & nationalism on an epic scale. Anyways, James Pierce of the BBC makes a pretty good case for why these winter games were the best.

Early in these Winter Olympics a furore was caused by a journalist asking if these Games were turning out to be the worst Winter Olympics ever.

Now I’m ready to pose another question, which will probably provoke just as much debate. Have these actually been the best Winter Olympics ever?

Let me clarify that question a little. In many ways there are always two parallel Olympics which take place – the one that viewers around the world watch on TV, and the one thatspectators come to a city to enjoy in person.

For example, the Beijing Olympics were considered to be a great success by the international television audience, whereas many people who witnessed the Games at first hand complained about the lack of atmosphere in the Chinese capital.

Read the rest of this article at the BBC

on a side note: Canada now holds the record with 14 Gold, for most Gold medals won by a single country at a winter games!

My jaw absolutely dropped when I first saw Microsoft’s latest mobile OS / phone platform just a few days ago, up until a few years ago I was a huge fan of Sony Ericsson for their excellent UI and beautiful hardware. Until of course the iPhone launched which I still use to this day. Lucky for Microsoft my jail-broken iPhone hasn’t been so great with backgrounding and all this past year, and while I love some of the excellent mobile games on the iPhone I really am interested in this new OS Microsoft has created. The phones interface is just absolute gorgeous taking cues from the Zune and the extremely successful Xbox 360 more importantly the phone looks very snappy an obvious perk from the demo units and platform required Snapdragon processor which you may have seen this past CES in full-size tablets like that Lenovo Notebook/Tablet Hybrid. I think the videos of Windows Phone Series 7 speak for themselves, if you’re interested in more both Engadget and Paul Thurrott of WinSuperSite.com have excellent articles that throughly explore all of the demo units features.

I’ve only had my Canon S5IS for a few weeks now, which has been my first semi-serious take at photography. Although its no DSLR and its sensor fails at lowlight, the S5IS is extremely versatile with its 12x zoom lens and very capable with the CHDK firmwares RAW mode. I’m thinking my next purchase will be a Gorillapod SLR, which should help out with long exposure shots. Yesterday I woke up extremely early to make it downtown for sunrise, while I was messing with settings I remembered that AEB could be used for HDR images. So after putting the images through Photomatrix, a little tone mapping, and few adjustment layers in Photoshop and little help from Pixelperfect episode 92 I created this:
